One project that has been on the back-burner for a little while is building up a 28mm TYW Imperialist or ECW Royalist army for FoGR. This unit was finished with a green uniform, perhaps not totally historical but looking smart.
I had finished seven units but got distracted by Sharp Practice and Chain of Command so I thought I'd paint up a unit of foot for the army next.
The figures are Warlord Games plastics which, initially, I was not that keen on. They are slightly fiddly to put together and have a disappointing number of options for the hats (unless you buy extra metal hats).
The worst thing from a wargamers point of view though are the pikes, the figures holding the pike upright are very hard to store or transport as they won't fit in a box file or even the really old school metal toolbox and the ones (not shown here) with the pikes horizontal are equally hard to store or transport. Personally I'd have much preferred them all to be with the pikes sloped for playability.
Having said that I think they paint up nicely. The flag is another from Flags of War which certainly looks more colourful than the rather staid ECW flags and is mounted on a 2mm aluminium tube which allows it to slide over the wire rod glued to the standard bearer letting me change the flag for the unit easily.
The army needs two more infantry units and two cavalry units to give a viable FoGR ECW Royalist force, if I concentrate more on the TYW side it probably needs the same infantry and a Cuirassier unit together with an Harquebusier cavalry unit.
